Glo Ghana has doubled its market share with its subscriber base now close to one million.

Glo captured two percent of the market to overtake Expresso, four months after beginning operations but the latest figures from the National Communications Authority (NCA) show the company’s share reached 4.2 percent.

This is after the second quarter performance by the telecom operators compiled by the NCA.

But Expresso has managed to turn their market share losses around. It gained some customers within the period taking its numbers to a little over 227,000 subscribers. This represents a 10 percent jump.

Vodafone experienced marginal decline in their market share. Vodafone lost just 0.2 percent but still owns about 20 percent of the market with over 4 million subscribers.

Tigo also recorded its highest subscriber base since October 2011. The operator lost customers on the network in September that year but recovered even though the scenario repeated itself till now. It now controls 15.2 percent of the market with about 4.15 million subscribers.

But Airtel saw a marginal increase, with subscriber base now hitting a little over 3 million. Airtel now controls 12.9% market share but this is a decline of a 0.5% compared to last month’s figures.

Market leader MTN only saw a 1% decrease compared to the May figures but it still controls 46% with over 10.7 million subscribers.
