Vodafone Ghana has provided double value on tariffs of its modems for new users at GHC55.

Other additional benefits for purchasers of its all new K3806 modem include a free SIM card and six gigabytes of data instead of three gigabytes previously. Also, for the first two months of use, anytime it is recharged, double credits are offered. The modem comes in three case colours – white, red and black.

Until the release of the modem onto the market recently, the company used to create the impression that its modem had the fastest speed of 14.4 megabytes per second download whereas it was among snail paced ones.

Even though the company is claiming its new modem has a peak download speed of 14.4, practically it can court a download speed of up to 10.8 megabytes per second.

Users of Vodafone’s modem could download based on three platforms – GPRS, EDGE, 3G and HSDPA depending on where they are, what time of the day it is and the traffic of internet users at any given time.

But the technical staff at Vodafone explained that the user’s experience, in terms of speed could be affected by various factors beyond the control of the user and of Vodafone.
At a recent sensitization workshop for editors in Accra, the company said it has data packages for beginners referred to as browsers, those who do a lot of social networking, live online music and video streaming also referred to as streamers, and finally for people who mostly like to download content from internet.

“Each package is specifically designed to meet the needs of each of the special segments,” they said.
Vodafone is the second largest operator in Ghana with about 4.7 million subscribers, representing 21 percent of the market share as at May 31, 2012.
