As part of its sponsorship of the Enablis Entrepreneurial Network’s 2013 Business Plan Competition, Accra Brewery Limited last week presented a sponsorship package cheque of US$100,000 to the company in Accra.

The Business Plan Competition, an initiative of Enablis Entrepreneurial Network, Ghana, is an annual event that has been in existence for three years now. The competition focuses on bringing to bear brilliant business plans amongst small- and medium-scale entrepreneurs, and also making available the requisite skills needed by such entrepreneurs.

Enablis Entrepreneurial Network is a membership-based organisation that aims to provide support programmes through assistance in the development of entrepreneurial skills, access to finance, and professional networking.

Adjoba Kyiamah, Corporate/Legal Affairs Director of Accra Brewery Limited, making the presentation said: “Accra Brewery is indeed very proud to be associated with an event that seeks to empower people in practical ways, suitable to the demands of an increasingly challenging economic climate.”

The Country Manager of Enablis Entrepreneurial Network, Ghana, Shika Acolatse, on receiving the cheque talked about the interdependence of corporate success and social welfare, and said: “I thank ABL on behalf of the entrepreneurs that will benefit from this donation, and I encourage other businesses in Ghana to look at CSR not as philanthropy but as a business approach to sustainable economic development.”

Last year, Accra Brewery sponsored the Food and Beverage category of the Business Plan Competition. The finalists of the competition were also given an opportunity to undertake knowledge-packed training sessions in Human Resources, Marketing, Sales and Distribution, and Finance, spearheaded by selected professionals of Accra Brewery.

Accra Brewery Limited has a special interest in sponsoring the development of entrepreneurial skills because the company strongly believes entrepreneurship is the fuel that drives economic growth in a developing country.

As such, the company’s support for the implementation of a focused support programme is its contribution toward empowering entrepreneurs.
